Indian 841 Rear #54-2
/ Michael RockIndian 841 motorcycle rear fender or mudguard by Vintage Steel
Indian 841 models with the transverse 45ci V-Twin engine and shaft drive were designed for the US Army during WW2 to use in desert conditions, but apparently never saw service in the Army and were sold for civilian use. Features like rolled edges on the fenders and welded brackets in lieu of rivets are evidence of the anticipated rough handling expected. There is a custom made square pressed metal cup spot welded inside the fender behind the battery, a reinforced raised rectangular pressing at the frame mounting and straightened nose again reinforced for mounting. The two U shaped brackets are hand-made copies of the original channel used. The removable tail-piece has a spot-welded military mesh inside and is held in place with three bolts. The heavy overlapping join plate is fixed in the main blade with welded bolt, cage nuts and a step-down to finish the detailing.
